Lissa sighed to herself. What did she want to do today? What could she possibly do today that could cure her boredom? Lissa flicked the pencil about on the desk. She turned and looked out her window at the large glassy lake. Now that was something she could do. Looking about the room again, Lissa decided that she would go for a swim. There was nothing for her to do. She should be out looking for jobs, but it was unlikely that she would find any here. As long as she kept the house paid for, she wouldn’t have to sell it and leave Silthrim. However, once she found a job, it was highly unlikely she would have enough time to travel this far to visit.
Lissa didn’t even bother to put shoes on as she left the house. Other members of the small city looked at her funny. They knew who she was. She was the daughter of the Galbatorix family. Her parents had supported Galbatorix and her father was even a high-ranking officer in the Imperial army. However, that wasn’t who Lissa was. She was not her parents. She was her mother, who did not support Galbatorix. She wanted to be whoever she wanted to be. Moreover, no one was going to stop her. That’s how she saw things, and that’s how she wanted them to be.
Finally reaching the lake, Lissa came up to her favourite spot and opened the door to her little shack. It was a small shed that she had built for her to change in. Whenever she entered the water, her legs would bind together, and she had wasted so many pants, not wanting to run through the area pants-less. It was easier this way. Opening the door again, she checked to make sure no one was around before running out, jumping into the lake and sighing. The soothing feeling of her legs binding together reminded her of why she had to be her own person. She could not let herself be controlled as easily as her father had.
Lissa did a quick lap around the lake, coming back to the shoreline to see a man walking around. Hopefully he wouldn’t see her. Ducking down a bit into the water, she hoped that he wouldn’t have seen her.

Crim Harrowmont, one of the youngest elves in all of the elven lands was walking by the lake of Silthrim. he was clad in his normal white and black leather outfit. his hair was spiky and silver and whispered slightly in the wind. he had his bow slung around his shoulder and his sword on his hip. but those would not be what drew most people's attention, what drew his attention was the notebook he was writing in.
his thoughts were turned in wards. today the thoughts were not focused and widespread. "hmmm. I wonder what the easiest way to join the Varden is, if i can prove me fighting skill i would surely get noticed. that or other feats of skill or endurance would get me recognized. that and i need to start preparing for my journey across the land. I need to find someone to come with me as that is a long journey and even a skilled warrior does not run the lands without a partner, that would be suicide of the most extreme.
I also wonder what i would need to pack, garments, arrows, oil and sword maintenance materials, food, a water skin, even though i could draw water from the ground. hmmmm."
Crim's attention turned to a splash that was made as someone entered the lake. he didn't pay them much mind and continued walking along the lake, he stopped suddenly as he saw a form in the water. he changed directions and headed to the lake. he jumped in the water he moved over towards the form and touching his lips. he waited to see if she would speak first...

Lissa cursed as she saw the man jumping into the water. Why was she having such bad luck all of the sudden? It was as if something was out to get her for some reason. However, she couldn’t have bad luck forever. She watched with careful eyes as he swam over. He was wearing a full leather outfit, should he really have jumped into the lake water?
As he stopped in front of her, all she did was stare and look over him. He had odd hair, he smelled like an elf, but he was wearing full leather and had jumped into a lake. Lis wasn’t sure, but she knew that if she were ever wearing an outfit made completely from leather, she wouldn’t be jumping into the lake anytime soon. The man looked strong, even with the leather outfit she could tell that he was a fighter. Deciding that the silence had lasted long enough, she felt that she would need to speak. It seemed as if the curious guest was dumbfounded. That or he was as cautious as she was. Now what was she going to say to him?
She noticed how he touched his lips and she had to sigh. So he was one of those people. Most in the city didn't take part in the ritual, but if he was going to, then it would only be rude if she didn't. Gingerly touching her lips, she began to speak. "Atra esterní ono thelduin." She waited, hoping that she did it right. As he answered, 'Mor'ranr lífa unin hjarta onr' she knew that she had done it correctly.
"Un du evarínya ono varda. You jumped into a lake in leather. Aren’t you worried about possibly ruining it?” She smirked to him. She wasn’t trying to act superior and she hoped that she didn’t come across as cocky. “I’m Lissa. But I have to ask, why did you jump in?” She giggled lightly. Her tail flicked around her, faintly brushing against the man’s leg.

crim sighed, as he tread water in the place he had surfaced. his leather outfit protected by a soundless spell he uttered before he entered the water. he moved his hair behind his ear as she spoke, he was suprised to see that she had a fin for a tail... it was disorienting. he also noticed that her features were standard for an elf. although she had a fin for a tail he saw that she had the same striking eyes and hair that most elves had. long hair drawn into a ponytail, green eyes, she looked rather tall or maybe it was just the height of her tail, which flashed silver-gray in the water light....
he thought to himself and recited a bit of doggerel to clear his mind "oh can thou count the raindrops as the fall from the sky, can you count the clouds as they fly by..."
he was oddly at peace, although he did notice her reluctance to even use the customary greeting standard to all elves, which was by far a weird fact. it threw him off quite a bit and he was suddenly leary of her.
he tensed his mind racing...
he thought to himself about how to proceed for a moment and then answered her question... "I did so Skraeling because i used a spell to prevent damage to my leather outfit before i jumped in... now i must ask why do you have the tail of a fish. and whom are you?"

As she stared at him, looking him over, she knew that he was doing the same to her. She had never really let anyone see her tail before. Having always-preferred not to show it to people, it had been the best way to keep the other town folk away from bothering her. The people already bothered her about her family’s place in society, views on political issues, whether or not they would bring about trouble or set the village in flames for Galbatorix’s cause. Silly and petty things like that were what annoyed her. She wasn’t her parents. She wasn’t her father and her mother never supported Galbatorix, her grandparents did. Why wouldn’t they listen to her when she would say this? To allow anyone close enough to see her tail was a shocking and new thing for her.
As he recited doggerel, she had to wonder why he had jumped into the lake. Sure, it wasn’t just about his clothing that she was curious enough to ask, it was why he had done it period as well. What personal reason had he to jump into the lake and swim out to her? His posture changed slightly, she believed him to have tensed. Wondering why, she ran through all the possible reasons.
Lissa nodded her head. That made sense. Making a quiet, “oh” as acknowledgement, she continued to listen to him speak. He wanted to know about her tail, well, she didn’t feel like telling him the entire story. She couldn’t even be sure if she could trust him. A simple answer would suffice. “I’ve wanted one since I was a little girl.” With a simple smile, she closed her eyes, content, and tilted her head to the side a bit. Opening them just moments later, she had to ask if he had heard her or if he was just stupid. She had already stated her name. However, it wasn’t right to judge a book by its cover, so she would assume that he hadn’t heard her.
“I’m Lissa. And who are you? You can’t possibly be from the area, I don’t recognise you.” She drifted off a bit, trying to remember if she had seen him before. She knew almost everyone in the town; it wasn’t that large of a town. Nevertheless, she couldn’t quite place his face. Maybe if she had a name to go off it would click and she would know for sure. “Lissa Atines, by the way.” She tried not to let her smile falter. She hoped that he wouldn’t recognise her for her name. Like many times before, because of her name, many people judged her. It wasn’t right. She was a firm believer in things like that. If it were one of her beliefs, she would fight to the death for it. It was just how she was. In addition, she believed that judging a book by its cover was limiting someone’s potential to be a great being in someone’s eyes.
“Have you been in these parts for long?”
