David yawned lightly as he stared at the woman infront of him. She had just told him a fabulous story about his once dead father. His father was a player in Feinster which suprized david actually it more then surprized him it made him think that he could have bastard siblings out there somewhere.
He sighed looking at the five men that were sent with him into Feinster. He then looked back to the woman thanking her in the ancient language. He then nodded to his men as they stood up and walked outside of the house scanning the crowd for potential assassins. Seeing none at least that their eyes could see they signaled it was okay for David to come out.
David smiled as he walked out of the house and into the small harbor town he looked around the four others waiting outside making his little squad the number of ten walking up to him and bowing lightly as they also told him the coast was clear. David now started to walk around the town not really having much of an aim to do much anyways.
About an hour later one of his men said that another squad of soldiers loyal to the Empire was here in Feinster. Wondering who was the commander David started to walk toward the last known location of the force, it would be good to see someone loyal to Galbatorix after being in a neutral area.

Amaranth Morwenna flipped her long braid off her shoulder and let it fall down her back, swinging till it settled. Her blue-green eyes scanned the area closely. They were only here for a short stop. No lingering for them, she wouldn’t let it. Her men knew it and never even bother to question it. They were taking this moment to get a short break after the long journey to Feinster from the capital. No orders really just to do patrolling of the countryside unless word comes that say other-wise. Feinster was just the next stop, nothing more. And that’s what she was planning on doing.
The raven haired woman tugged down the black jerkin she wore as part her lightweight uniform. She only bore her armor for war, it was heavy and slower her down, the other men wore some their armor though. Why, because they were insecure fools. She knew what she could do and was confident enough in her skills she didn’t need heavy metal work to guard her-self. Though she knew enough to be more alert this way. So she was constantly on watch and alert as they moved from the gates to an area. She stayed where she was supervising the temporary stabling of their horses and made sure they got fed and hers reshod because the gelding needed it. Once that was settled she turned away pondering upon what would be best to do next.
Blue green eyes landed on an approaching youth and two other men. A brow lifted. ‘My, My, look who it is’ she thought and folded her arms a moment before stepping forward, back poker straight and stride with purpose as she meet the man halfway. It was clear by that point they were coming this way anyway. It would take a complete fool or blind man not to notice that. She stopped with three paces between them. One hand rested on the hilt of the well used sword at her hip the other stayed at her side as she looked the other over. “It’s been some time Maxwell,” she said in her brisk clipped tones. No particular emotion on her face or voice. In fact she looked a little bored. But then again she always looked bored.

David stood there not very far from his old ally and friend just staring in disbelief how could it be that she made it to that rank so fast. He then laughed out right causing a few people to stare at him and then quickly walk off seeing David reach for his sword slowly.
"So it really is you Mara. Look at that your a commander like your father was to. I'm impressed. And many of the same men are still with the same squad how amazing. I would have thought they would either have died or tried to run away." he then looked at each of his old friends smiling at each one in turn and then while staring at Mara he drew his blade and before anyone could see used a dulling spell on his sword saying,"Defend yourself Mara."
When he said those words he launched a quick side attack clenching his fist since it was free. If need be he would use his fist as an attack also to alter up his moves and to see if Mara could still compete against him on a physical level. He hoped she was still ale to compete against him though he knew she might not be able to since he was taught by Galbatorix himself.

An ever so slight twitch of the corner of her lips might have given her away to him and him alone. She was glad to see the brat in one piece still. Blue-green eyes washed over the younger man as he spoke. No new look crossed her features but a slight spark in her eyes would have spoken miles for him. He was planning to play their old game and she was more than ready for him to make his move. Though not a single muscle moved to pull her sword free. She would only draw it last minute and even then she most likely would never unsheathe it. She was good at hand-to-hand, well more than good, but her sword skills were only a fraction better than those skills.
The younger charged once he said his piece and the men around her moved away quickly as their commander danced, twisting out of the swords reach and way from David. She danced behind him flicking his ear as she past him and settled where he stood moment before arms crossed bored as she looked at him. “You’re c.ocky,” she drawled raising a brow, what gave him that confidence she felt rage off him. He wasn’t this bad when she knew him.
Seeing Amaranth made no motion or signal that this was something they should step in to stop her men watched a moment more before wandering away, it was best to get their break while they could. She was sure a few of them were mentally thanking David with all their little hearts for distracting her this way, she was a slave driver after all, like her father only less nice about it.
The raven haired woman lowered her arms and shifted her weight getting a balanced center crouching slightly, her body ready to spring in any direction before she willed it when he made his next move. If he wanted to win this round he was going to have to catch her first and she was a fast bugger, not like elves but fast enough to keep him spinning till he dropped once upon a time.

David watched her twirl and then felt the flick on his ear. Just like old times....This is going to be fun. He chuckled as he breathed lightly letting his body relax when he had sheathed his sword. He then turned around speaking to her in a low tone his men making a circle around them,"You and your acrobatics. You haven't changed a bit Mara." He then got into a small fighting stance his body loss.
This wasn't like the old David, the old one she knew would have yelled at her for flicking his ear and got mad. This one was more calm, mature, and well all around built for a fight. He wouldn't use his sword if she wouldn't. He'd fight fist to fist only if she did. He will only fight her if she wanted to fight him. But this time it would be on his level. As he looked at the circle he finally kicked dirt up toward her launching a high flying kick toward her shoulder.
His men groaned seeing him playing dirty. He normal fought clean but they knew how much he wanted this win because he normally lost against her all of the time. Which to them was OK but he hated having a loss on his record.

Amaranth raised a brow at him, the first visible show of emotion in a long while. He was calm, now this was new. Blue green gaze flew over him quickly as he sheathed the sword and spoke. “I changed boy, you just don’t see it,” she said simply, no particular tone as she watched him very carefully for signs of movement. There, his leg. She waited till it drew back and she jumped aside and rushed in as he kicked, only making as though she would hit him but she bounced back and away from him and circled, like a cat would its prey.
The raven haired woman lunged in and drew back, like a feline would swipe a paw just to startle the prey. Two more times she did it before she moved in swiftly to got his ear with a flick, while her leg swung out to get his side, leaving him to choose which one to defeat. The leg she was expecting. She would catch his ear and twist it if he caught her leg, If he blocked the ear he would get a pleasant kick to the side, unless he could move his larger frame faster than her. Now that would be a little something to see. He had got her with the dirt, though she hadn’t made any motion as though he did. But when she circled she blinked rapidly to get the dirt from her eyes. They had watered but tears never fell, they weren’t needed the watering eyes cleared the dusted eye for her. She also got a good lung full of dust which she worked out best she could, while ignoring the rest. He was learning to play dirty; good it meant he wasn’t a softy anymore. He was growing up at long last, it was about time too.
“Whoever trained you did a lot of work in a short time to break you of your old habits,” she commented when she had moved in with her multiple attacks. That was as close a complement as he would ever get and it was whispered in his ear for him, no one else to be witness, and it was always an attempt to distract him in a very slim chance she might get him with both attacks. It was doubtful though.

Seeing the dust hit her he chuckled but he saw his forward kick miss at the same time giving her a huge opening. David groaned seeing her form a flick ut at the same time he saw a way around it. But her leg movement made him rethink his movement so he stayed in the same spot. Seeing the flick and kick both near him he corssed his hands catching both her arm and leg like it was nothing.
He cracked a smile pulling her closer to him then she had ever been and planted a kiss on her lips saying,"You've gotten slower...my sweet." There it was his old nick name for her. Her father and him were the only ones that had called her that, David called her that because her father had once asked him to one day marry her if he became a commander of sorts.
David chuckled as he then lifted her up and off the dirt a bit and tossed her onto the ground after the small kiss knowing she'd try to bite him like always when he kissed her. He still had a scar from his last kiss when she bit his neck. "Now get ack up and try again Mara."

Well now, so he caught her. She felt her eyes widen slightly, fractionally. It had been so long since someone caught her, but she guessed she left her-self wide open for it. It was her fault, but it made her all the more determined to win this one. He only rarely won against her and this time he wouldn’t not after catching her so soon In the game. She would be sure of it. She was determined as anyone person could get over anything. And the nickname and small fast kiss on the lips made her all the more determined.
She gave a whisper of a growl for his ears only teeth showing for a brief second but a push and she found he tossed her away. Tucking in a ball landing and rolled once and came up on her feet before a second roll she brushed her-self off. A few locks of her raven hair were loose from the braid down her back. That was a rarity all of its own. She normally didn’t move about enough to have to straighten her shirt let alone her hair. She hardly ever needed to. With a quick blow up to get a lock of hair from her eyes she lurched forward as though to kick him in the stomach but moved past him on light feet slender fingers purposely grazing his shoulder as she moved and danced to come back to back with him, not touching though.
Mara licked her lips before she sent an elbow back at him to get him in the side or back, while making sure to step with him so he couldn’t face her unless he turned around, and if he did than she would be out of reach before he could get a firm grip on her. Though she had something else in mind. She twisted around and sent a booted foot to get him in the backside, just playing with him. Being slow on purpose so he could catch the foot if he wanted. If he would she would take advantage of it to move closer to kiss him long enough to hit him in the gut, if he got out to way or let her kick she would just wait for a later time to pull some her dirtier tricks. This one was just pulling from his own game.

David's eyes widend swiftly as he felt her twirl around his body and then put her back to back with him. She had gotten faster...a lot faster. He then felt her stop, he could feel her breathing with a normal pace, strange he thought she'd be winded from that toss but no matter.
David then felt it. his mind raced as he though of what he should do. He dodge the first few without looking at them just y sensing them. But when he saw her close in after he had turned around he felt her lips touch his. He couldn't help but kiss her back putting a lot of feeling into it. He felt like he was in back in time when they first met, when he first looked her into the eyes. That day was a day to remember and one not highly forgotten.

He made it too easy really he did. She had to keep from smirking against the kiss before she drew back nipping his bottom lip a little harder than need be and with a smirk got a point blank hit to the gut for him. She bounced back eyes locked on him. The corner of her lips held a trace of a smile as she waited for him to get his breath back, she was pretty sure she hit him in the right place to wind him not do any damage. She was being careful with him, she always was.
Amaranth shook her braid back over her shoulder with a sigh. “We can call it quits whenever you want,” she said a slight tone to her voice. She was teasing him. She had heard a few groans from the men around them when she hit him. She was pretty sure it was a low blow but he asked for that one. No one got away with stealing kisses without paying a hefty price of some sort.
She broke her gaze when she spoke to look down at her nails and dig a little dirt from under one thumb, while keeping a pretty good eye on him all the same. No need to get caught off guard after all. That wouldn’t be any fun, not at all. Not that she was really looking for fun, but rather results, she was all for results.

David groaned lightly feeling the bite on his lip and then gasped as her fist collided with his gut. He then backed up hearing his men groan for his pain. He coughed twice as he spat up a little of blood. Smiling at this he then spoke to her,"That was a cheap shot Mara." He growled lightly to himself.
David shook his head looking at her after she said they could stop,"You have got to be joking. Its just now getting good." He then pulled out his sword smiling softly,"I want to see if you have improved at all Mara. Shall we duel?" When they usually dueled he was the one that won most of the time. David now spoke to her in the ancient language, trying to bind her in place,"Malthinae!!" [to bind or hold in place] As he spoke that he moved his sword in a circle smiling brightly as he then pointed it toward Mara.

Mara inclined her head to him when he told her it was a cheap shot. They both knew she was well aware of that. But as stated before he was the one who started that little game. But now she was more focused, done with getting back at him. She watched him draw his sword and seemed to think it over a moment as her hand gripped the hilt of her own. He voiced his spell and she froze mid motion.
The raven haired commander wasn’t affected by the spell but she felt the burn under her shirt that told her the pendent there that helped spell against small little spells like the one he played with wouldn’t take effect. She looked at him before drawing her sword and shifted to keep her side to him, making her-self a smaller target as she lazily spun the sword in his hand a few times watching his torso for any clues as to what movement he may make next.
Her blue green gaze locked on him as she made sure to keep with him. She lunged a thrust at him, a feign though. She drew back as fast as she struck out. Her eyes narrowed slightly in concentration as she waited for him to make the first real move. She knew how to work him enough to keep her guard till her tired, only if he tired before getting a good one in did she win as swordplay, it wasn’t her strongest point, not like hand to hand was. The swords weight slowed the woman who relied solely on her speed where strength failed her.

'Time to end this....' He spoke to himself as he rushed forward dropping his hand to the hilt slipping the two blades together and thus locking them. As this happend he applied a bit of pressure and flipped her sword out of her grasp. And just as fast as that happened he had his sword against her neck swiftly.
Oh well look at that. You lost against me again Mara." He laughed slightly as he then sheathed his sword one of his men walked over to Mara holding her sword. He then bows to her saying,"You were a great match for David, but you see he was trained by King Galbatorix for the past few years."
David smiled softly as he bowed to Mara and his men walked off knowing that was the end of the fight. "So what brought you here Mara?" He chuckled lightly as he kissed her hand softly looking very different now.

Amaranth winced ever so slightly as their blades meet, locked, and hers flew. With a resigned sigh she looked at him steadily and the blade near her throat. That was rather embarrassing. Not that she would let it show. Apparently the brat got better, good for him. He needed to be good at something. She raised her brow fractionally as he spoke and then took her hand gracing it with a kiss.
She took the sword from the man who offered it and sheathed it before looking David over. Blue green eyes scanned him over slowly, like when they very first meet, her eyes calculating. Then she gave her very rare smile, lips visibly twisting. The way they did when her father was still alive. She shook her head at him. “I guess I was wrong about you. You did change,” she said crossing her arms for a moment.
“I’m on ‘border patrol’ until a task is assigned. We were told to stop at each passing town and village. So here I am,” she answered his question. She unfolded her arms and looked around them. “We leave in the morning at the latest, but I want to be gone sooner, well now Im not sure about that,” she said looking at him. Her eyes narrowed slightly at the old ‘friend’.

David looked at Mara smiling softly. he listened to his man tell her who and what he was now. As his man talked he told his other men to go do whatever they wished to do. He knew she would want to catch up with him as soon as they could get some time alone.
As he turned around his other man, the one that gave Mara her sword back walked off nodding to David. "Well it has been three years correct? Of course i would grow...everywhere. I mean its not like the imperial guard took me away to kill me." He laughed at her lightly.
He then chuckled,"Well I can find a good assignment for you and your troops here. In fact we recently sent a group off to the capital because they had been here for three months. Besides I could use the company."
