Name: Anira
Age: 2 –my timing might be off here; she’s younger than Thorn and older then Sierthra-
Race: Dragon
Rider: Capio
Appearance: Anira is a full grown, albeit a very young, dragon. Like any dragon she is stunning to behold. Her body is covered in sparkling scales their quality surpassing even brightsteel in terms of strength. Yet they are incredibly light allowing graceful easy flight. Interlocking in what appears an impossible scheme the scales make an impenetrable natural armor. There are no holes in their defense. Not many will notice this practical use at first sight. They’re too busy admiring the glittering sky blue color the scales shine. Anira makes sure to keep her scales in top shape and it shows when the sun hits her just right. The light blue color can appear a deeper and darker blue without the sunlight, almost like the outer edges of the sky. When it full light they seem to clear to an almost clear blue like the sky on an incredibly bright day. Her scales match the hue of the sky; catch the light just as the heavens themselves do. Besides the shocking beauty this creates it is also incredibly useful. One may not think of it at first but it provides amazing camouflage. Anira might gleam or glitter if the light hits her, but if she flies smart she can hide in the most unlikely of places…the sky itself. As long as she keeps her outline out of the sun’s way she can seemingly come out of nowhere to attack while flying.
There are dragons built for agility and for speed, others are built with a heavier emphasis on size and muscle. Anira is none of these builds, and yet all of them. If there were a picture to show what a normal average dragon looked like it would be Anira. She is perfectly proportioned. Swift in flight and fit for battle. This means she does not have something she specifically specializes in, but if she plays smart she can outmaneuver her opponent. Anira does not rely on speed nor does she rely on strength. She can do each one equally. Anira will never be the fastest or the strongest, she has to be able to train and do all of it. Her wings carry her swiftly but aren’t overlarge, that would affect her while trying to battle. Long talons of gleaming white are serrated within the inner edge, sharp fangs and a strong well muscled tail are but a few of her tools in battle.
Anira has also been breathing fire for a decent amount of time and has become skilled in its use. Every day she trains as Capio does. Only she works on breathing fire for longer periods of time and maneuvering through the sky.
Her eyes are a deep and calming blue. Very near to sapphires they seemed to hold a certain intelligence and understanding even when she was a hatchling. There is a slight glint of mischievousness but more often there is a royal, almost regal, look in their deep blue. Personality: Anira is Capio’s voice of reason and calm. From the time she hatched she had a streak of mischievousness and would play around with her rider to frustrate him, but above all she is a leader. She does not speak often to others, instead counseling her rider and talking with him. When it comes time for battle she devises plans with Capio, helping even the ground troops. Since she is neither the largest nor swiftest of dragons Anira has to outsmart them, use better tactics. This is one reason she chose Capio. He was a brilliant strategist and that matches perfectly with Anira. She is constantly analyzing the world around her. At times it may seem like playful curiosity but Anira truly does learn much. This sense of curiosity about the world has made her seem more mischievous than she normally is at times.
Humor does not escape her despite her calm and serenity. She often messes with Capio and others she might care to speak to with her wry sarcasm. Though Anira is a strategist and plans many things out she is incredible at making decisions quickly and without hesitation. Such decisiveness is needed from a leader, and Anira understands this. She has not always made the correct decision, ‘but a good plan now is better than a perfect plan next week’. These quick decisions call for quick thinking so Anira has learned to plan under pressure within seconds. Working with Capio it is possible. That and she almost always keeps a cool head. During battle she does not rage about, she is calm and collected, much like her rider. Roaring at the enemy won’t get you very far, so she can become deadly silent during a fight. There are only a few things that will truly get her angry.
Anira’s anger and rage that she puts off in battle comes to an explosive end when someone harms Capio. The first thing Anira saw when she hatched was her rider going faint and fall over. Capio had been bleeding from his head and to her young eyes, dying. The protectiveness she gained from that moment has not left her. Capio is her other half the one being that she can work with perfectly. Without him she would be nothing, just as he would fall without her. If one thing remains constant it is her love for her rider. The two work perfectly together on the battlefield and off. Being separated is painful for both of them so they avoid it as much as possible.
When she bonded with Capio Anira taught the man how to be merciful and yet just. Before he had simply known cruelty and punishment for anyone that disobeyed orders. Anira was able to soften him slightly and lead him down the path to becoming a greater leader than he had been before. Working in tandem Anira knows everything will turn out alright.
History: Anira spent many years trapped within her shell. She remembers the screams of dying riders and the roars of dragons. Crushed eggs and despair were her earliest memories. There was a time when a spell was put on her, it bound her to some higher calling and made her wait for one to come. She wasn’t sure who but she would sit there for an eternity if she had to. There was an extremely long period of silence, a time when no one came by, and then everything became frantic. Soon numerous people came by brushing a hand against the beautiful sky blue egg she was trapped in. None of their minds appealed to her. All of them were worried about some Varden thing and an Empire. Most of them were thinking of promotions, and all of them seemed so dull.
Then came a stronger presence. She wanted desperately to get a better look at who that person was, but they walked past. Thankfully they quickly turned, but then something strange brushed against the surface of the egg. It was not this man’s hand but his blood. She was worried for him and got a better feel of his mind than she had from anyone else ever before. Anira was grateful when the man wiped off the stain and at the touch of his hand she knew he was the one meant to be hers. There was simply no question about it.
So she struggled with the egg now worried about this man and quickly burst free. The first thing she felt was the palm of his left hand and her nose smarted as a stream of hot fire igniting her body. And as she cleared her eyes of the pain and egg mucous the first thing she saw was her rider’s shocked face covered in blood, incredibly pale and falling to the ground. At that moment the hatchling was able to forget her own stabbing hunger and immediately started crying out for help. Leaping from the tall pedestal she landed to the ground in a heap and kept nudging Capio as she creened. Frantic she tried to clean the wound on her rider’s head until finally help came. It took them long enough to bring her food and by the end of the day she was extremely exhausted, but she survived and was content to be with Capio.
Needless to say the two were inseparable. Quickly enough Anira was named and began to speak. Capio was already made to practice magic but most of his days and she would watch patiently as a hatchling, always staying within eyesight. There was something deeper than friendship between the two. Even before Anira spoke her first word they knew the other was a part of them. For long months she trained with Shruikan and Thorn. On some normal scouting missions they tangled with some Varden riders. Eventually Anira and Capio were admired by their soldiers and known throughout much of the Empire. Then they simply disappeared, and not for a short time. They told no one where they were going and the Varden figured they had died, simply fallen off the face of Alagaesia. Truth be told Capio and Anira were investigating Vroengard for Galbatorix, but this a matter between only them. Now Capio and Anira arrive from the west coming back to their home in Uru’baen to face a new threat.
