Name: Nar Hedda
Age: 20 (just out of adolescence)
Race: Kull (Urgal)
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Hedda is quite beautiful for an Urgal, but is still considered ugly by humans. Her hair – her one vanity – is the black of the abyss. It hangs almost to her back in lustrous waves, when out. However, she usually ties it up in a braid, into which she braids a leather strip studded with metal spikes, to deter anyone who may grab her hair in battle. Her pig eyes are a bright blue, but are half-hidden by a squint. Her nose is large and crooked; it had been broken numerous times. She has a wide jaw and small ears. Her lips are twisted, and when opened they reveal yellow teeth. Her skin is grey and leathery. Atop her head rests a small pair of fine horns; they are not as big as those belonging to her male counterparts.
Standing at 8’6”, Hedda is quite obviously a Kull, and a large one at that. She has broad shoulders that lead to thickly corded arms. Her hands are large, and her yellowed nails have been sharpened. She has a wide chest emitting a sonorous voice that carries over large distances, and an ample bosom. A thick waist leads to bowlegged legs, as thick as tree trunks.
Normally, Hedda wears battle gear. She wears full armour at almost all times. When she doesn’t however, she reinforces the fact that she is a female by wearing dresses, and even wearing ornaments and flowers in her hair. This is more to spite the men than to appear feminine.
Personality:
Hedda is violent and sadistic, even for an Urgal. Even other Urgals fear her wrath. She kills and maims with no qualms, and enjoys the gore of battle. She thrives on the pain of others, and listening to the petrified and agonized screams of her prey is her greatest joy. Many hours are devoted to the art of war, from weapons practice to studying battle strategies.
Despite this, Hedda is not a hot-head who does not listen to reason. On the contrary, Hedda is clear-headed, quick-witted, decisive and a good leader. She does not let anger cloud her judgment, but instead cold calculations rule her actions. She is intelligent, and enjoys exercising both her mind and body. Mind puzzles amuse her, especially those that people bet their lives. Hedda can make quick decisions when under pressure. She is handy in a crisis, though her methods aren’t always the most humane. These attributes, as well as her confidence and her bossy nature make Hedda a fantastic leader.
Hedda is loyal, and she pays respect to those who earn it. She always stays true to her word, and is loyal to those she considers as friends. She acts respectfully to those who earn power, but not to those born into it. She recognizes both mental and physical prowess, and respects people who display either.
History:
Hedda was the first cub to her parents, Gorzorrg and Vrsa. Her younger sister was born a few years later. Hedda grew up as any normal female, believing that she would one day find a mate and have cubs. She worked to learn to cook and clean, and studied other cubs for possible future mates.
It soon became clear however, that Hedda would be larger than most Urgals, and would be a Kull. When her horns grew, she was sent to fight a forest creature. She chose to fight a wildcat, which was not all that prestigious.
Hedda realized she was different from the other female Urgals. She no longer had any deigns on becoming a mother. Therefore, she went before the leader of the village and asked to join the Urgals fighting for the Varden. She was refused.
The leader, Tzokog, was a fierce Kull. However, Hedda was taller, and she was sure she could beat him. She challenged him to a fight, and he accepted. She won easily, and received the title Nar. She was then allowed to join the Varden.
Role-playing example:
“I CHALLENGE YOU, TZOKOG,” Hedda roared, lowering her horns. She deliberately left of the title ‘Nar’ to insult and anger the other Kull. “Fight me if you dare, Drajl!” Her ploy worked, and Tzokog let out a furious bellow, lowering his horns as well. A crowd gathered, rippling with expectancy. Their blood lust washed over Hedda; it was almost tangible. Her heart hammered and an excited grin twisted her face. This was what she was born for, not for rearing cubs but for fighting. That was why she was a Kull.
Both contestants began to strip, eying each other. A few of the females rushed forward and stopped Hedda, to protect her modesty.
“NO,” roared Tzokog. “She challenged me, and she will abide by the rules. She will remove all clothing except her trousers.” Hedda glared at him, and slowly obeyed. A hiss of disapproval broke through the crowd, but she ignored them. Naked in all but trousers, the two began to rub bear fat into their grey skin.
Nearby a cook fire pulsed like the heart of a dying beast, and it suffused the two Kull in an amber glow. The blood lust worked the contestants up into a frenzy as the audience began to jest and yell. Hedda felt her blood begin to boil, and let out a terrible roar. The answering roar was of the same volume, but of a deeper - more masculine - pitch.
Hedda charged, heedless to harm that she might suffer. Tzokog charged as well, his mind also clouded. Their horns smashed together with a clang, and they grabbed each others forearms. They both attempted to use their strength to overthrow their opponents, but – seeing that they were unable – they jumped apart, their horns whispering as they scraped upon each other.
A wind picked up as the two examined each other, chests heaving. It was a terrible, soulless wind that put Hedda’s nerves on edge. She growled, frustrated with her own inadequacy.
The rage was fading now, and Hedda was able to think clearly. She could see that Tzokog was still lost in the world of red, and she grinned maliciously. The ram charged her, his feet rising small plumes of dust.
Hedda grabbed his horns at the last moment, and threw herself over his head. His horns dug into her palms, and a small smear of blood stained the ivory. Expecting resistance, and with the force of her throw, Tzokog fell to the ground. Before he could rise, Hedda had her knee on his back, holding him down.
Smiling, she brought her fist down, and watched in joy as the Kull died.
