Personality:
Khallis is a very kind person, outside of battle that is. Wherever he goes he is very friendly to anyone he meets. He is well-liked by many of the people around Alagasia. He loves to talk and be happy, and laugh, just like most people. But the one thing that he does not like is people oppressing others, just because they are stronger. This is one reason why he is against Galbortorix. He looks up to people that are strong and great warriors, and really has no promblem with them showing off or anything like that, but if you really want to see him mad, then mess with someone that doesn't even pose a threat to you, like a peasant, then you'll see his rage unleashed. He is also a very different person in a battle. When he is in a battle it's like the kindness just leaves him, and he only cares about the fight. He can be very intimidating in a battle. Most people also call him the beast of battle, because of the way he fights, not giving a single opponent mercy.
History:
Khallis grew up as an orphan. He never knew his parents, if he had any brothers or sisters or anything like that. Actually at the orphanage he lived at, the adults who took care of the kids always told him that he was left out in the woods about to be devoured by a pack of wolves. So you can imagine what kind of effect that had on him. He always grew up thinking, Why did his parents never want him? What had been so wrong with him?
He spent many nights thinking and dreaming, sometimes even crying, until one day he found out the truth. He was told that his parents had owed money to a local merchant they had lost a bet with, and they had to give him up or he would most likely be sold to the merchant to be his slave. This brought two things to the boy's mind. One, his parents actually cared for him and had no choice, but to give him up. The second was actually a question. He knew that merchants were able to become really rich from selling a lot of valuable merchandise, because by now he was about 13 and understood money and things like that. So why did it matter if his parents owed him a little money?
He found out the answer when he was 16. He was ready to leave the orphanage of course and begin his journey. He went out into many villages and heard many stories, met many people and friends, but there was one thing he heard that stuck into his mind. The story of Galbotorix. He had heard of the great powers that the dragon rider had, and just couldn't understand why someone so powerful, had to rule over so many people, ruining each of their lives? He finally came up with an answer to this question.
He found that people that have a lot of power, can hardly resist, but to get more power. Galbortorix wasn't the first either. Many kings had killed and took over lands, all in the quest for power. Many people practically sucked out people's will to live just so they can be stronger and richer. He found it was just in human nature, and he didn't like it. He began to try to do things about it. He found a rusty sword and started trying to fight anyone who opposed the weak, it didn't work out so well, then he met a very strange man that have a big impact on his life.
The man was probably in his late 50s or early 60s. He had a long white beard and long white hair as well. He was called the town drunk actually. But that wasn't the weird part about this guy. He was a fighter, kind of like a rebel, but that's not the weird part about him. He was completely blind. And Khallis had seen him fight. He was no push-over. He actually became very interested in the man. He needed to be stronger, this guy could be the one.
He asked the guy up front to train him. The man said no, and no, and no again, and no even more times. Khallis tried for weeks to get the guy to train him, and he wouldn't. Finally it seemed like the guy, finally got tired of Khallis talking and agreed. But after the first day of training Khallis wished he could've taken it back. The man made him swing a sword over and over and over again until his new mentor said he was fast enough. He then had to shoot arrows at a tree, until he hit an exact spot on the tree.
He did this every day for about three months, each time he would be given a harder challenge, until his master said he was ready for the final lesson. The fight of no sight. The old man had taught him to not just rely on what he sees, but what he hears and smells. He took him into the mountains. And left him blindfolded. He called out loudly and of course Urgals came. Khallis was very panicked, but even being as panicked as he was the training he received was enough to overcome it. He killed each of the Urgals with his arrows, blindfolded, before they could get within 10 feet of him.
He passed, but never saw his master again, but he always thanks the man, because without him he would never be able to help bring justice to Alagaesia. Now he takes it upon himself to help anyone being oppressed without being asked or paid. He never found his parents, but somehow he knew that they would be proud of him.
