The sky was silvery-white when Lynette watched the river while she sat down in the white snow. She reached into her bag and took out a few matches. She lit one of them and watched the fire glow brightly. Then she tossed a bundle of twigs onto the ground from her bag and set the match onto a twig. The fire grew, and Lynette threw more pieces of wood into it. She watched the fire burn as she reached into her pouch and took out a small muffin. Her hands were cold, even with her gloves on. She took a bite out of the muffin and moved closer to the flames. The fire crackled and shot yellow-orange sparks into the cold air. She squeezed her warm, furry brown cloak tighter around her and slapped on the hood. Lynette remembered when she was rejected when she wanted to join the Varden because she quit the Empire when Galbatorix was doing bad things. Now that she thought about it, she didn't know if the Varden or the Empire was better.
